of Beth Shadur‘s new exhibit “Away with the faeries…” this evening. Beth Shadur is a North Shore resident and an artist who has exhibited across the US and abroad, with an impressive resume of solo and group exhibits, publications, grants, mural commissions, teaching gigs, AND curatorial experience.
If you’ve ever wandered into the Highland Park Library Inger Boye Children’s Room, you’ve had a Beth Shadur experience: Shadur transformed the walls and doorways into a

nursery rhyme wonderland with witty, colorful mural paintings that will make you wish you were still a kid. Or, you might just want to take a grandchild there.
In the fall of 2008 Shadur was awarded the Governor’s International Arts Exchange Program Grant by the Illinois Arts Council for a residency in County Clare, Ireland. The work she began there was continued during Shadur’s residency at Ragdale in Lake Forest last December, and since then in Shadur’s studio in Highland Park. The exhibition investigates the sacred ancient symbol of the spiral in relationship to the sacred landscape of the Burren in Ireland.
Shadur’s exhibit of works on paper “Away with the faeries,” at the Robert T. Wright Gallery of College of Lake County in Grayslake runs from May 22 through July 3, 2009. Also at the gallery are paintings on panel by Gabriella Boros.
The Opening Reception is Friday, May 22 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
There will be music by pianist Vladimir Shifrin. It’s free and open to the public.
See you there–

I didn’t know that Beth did the HP Library children’s room. She really did transform the room.
