During the Special Gifts Theatre’s Saturday performance of High School Musical JR, the cheerleaders and their peer mentors prepare to enter stage right. Clad in identical red t-shirts and white skirts, these buddies carry their pom poms and walk up the stairs. Three of the four pairs take their place on the bleachers.
There is delay in the scene. One of the cheerleaders stops and takes the arm of her mentor. Then the young cheerleader hugs her mentor, burying her face in the mentor’s shoulders. Shyness? Stage Fright?

At the Wilmette Theatre, North Shore residents and beyond will have an opportunity that would make seven-year-old me shriek with joy. No, it’s not a pet unicorn or a canopy bed: it’s a performance by the talented show business veteran Andrea McArdle, who created the role of Annie in the Broadway musical Annie in 1977.

So, I heard that there was going to be strippers in Skokie and I’m like that’s great because the only stripping I ever seen in Skokie was when my ex-wife got rid of the paint in our living room. I told her to get rid of the living room and she told me to get the hell out of the house. But I digress.
