Door County through an Artist's Eye

If you are a typical resident of the North Shore, you appreciate good food and good scenery. That is what my husband and I experienced during our recent visit to Door County Wisconsin, one of Chicago’s favorite get aways. We enjoyed a delicious fish boil at the Old Post Office in Ephraim, and savory prime rib at The English Inn in Fish Creek.

The local events calendar alerted us to an “Art Crawl” in Ellison Bay, where we bought a lovely piece of pottery at Gills Rock Pottery. Speaking of which, the art and gallery community seem to be thriving, and we saw some interesting items at The Rusty Rabbit and The Blue Dolphin in Ephraim.

Our hiking schedule included Ridges Sanctuary in Bailey’s Harbor and the Newport State Park in Gills Rock where the autumn leaves were at peak or a bit past in the third week of October. Fall is our favorite season in Door County, but there are winter activities, and more and more establishments are staying open all year. Check with www.godoorcounty.com.
