4. Hungry? Have you tried Avli Estiatorio in Winnetka? Terrific Greek Food. Really Terrific.
Tucked away in Winnetka’s Laundry Mall (566 Chestnut), Avli is a real “hidden gem.” Ron Kaplan of LTHforum (a real foodie) and I had lunch there last week and it blew me away. The lentil salad was prepared with baby lentils, roasted red pepper, feta, herbs, and olive oil over baby spinach. Ron noted that the fresh spearmint made the salad exceptional.
The grilled octopus was the best I’ve ever eaten – delicious grilled flavor seasoned with lemon, oregano, and olive oil. We shared a broiled sea bass which was served whole and filleted at our table.
I had a glass of wine with lunch so I don’t remember the vegetable dish.
Avli Estiatorio has a full bar, a solid wine list and is a very friendly place. The owner, Louie Alexakis is there most of the time. Their philosophy, “here at Avli everyone should feel like they are visiting an old friend.”
5. Don’t forget Carla Gordon’s tribute to Bea Arthur@Davenport’s, Sunday 5:00 PM.
Sure, it’s south of Howard. 1383 South Milwaukee in Chicago. But Davenport’s is a cool venue and is helping to keep Cabaret real. Go see Carla and say hi from Ageless.

There are still $10 discounted VIP tickets available until Midnight Friday, Nov,. 20th
