Last Saturday afternoon (6.6.09), Simply Chicago Art, an attractive new art gallery tucked away between Chute School and a surf shop on Oakton Street in Evanston, hosted the opening of a show of hand-pulled prints by the One Horse Press printmakers who work in the Evanston Art Center’s print studio. Also featured were the dynamic mosaics of painter and printmaker Joe Taylor. An enthusiastic crowd came out to see the art and the artists, despite the cold and rain. Wine, strawberries and brownies were served. See what you missed? Not real clear on what fine art printmaking really is? Click on these links for a brief explanation of three kinds of printmaking represented at Simply Art Chicago: etchings, woodcuts, lithographs. If you’re a collector, or are thinking of starting a collection, this would be a great place to start: the work is expertly crafted, and prices are very, very reasonable. Show runs through July 5; gallery hours: Saturdays 11:00 am-7:00 pm and Sundays 1:00 pm-6:00 pm. (MAP)

The gallery looks great. I’ll try to get out there. I have several Joe Taylor prints and am interested in seeing his mosaics.
Wow, looking great — the Simply Chicago show and also the website.
