First off, we think this weekend is going to be sunny, 70′s with some rain on Friday and Saturday, but clear skies and nearly perfect on Sunday. But as someone said, you don’t need a weatherman to know which was the wind blows.
So, we’re planning to be outdoors the weekend.
Let the festivals begin:
[mappress]The 7th annual Deerfield Festival of the Arts features the juried work of ninety artisans including work in acrylic, oil and watercolor painting, glass, jewelry, ceramics, fiber, sculpture, mixed media, furniture, printmaking, photography, stone and wood. Head to Downtown Deerfield (Park Avenue and Deerfield Road, just west of Waukegan Road) and roam the aisles enjoying the the sunshine, artwork, live musical entertainment, and the always popular “festival food.”
Saturday and Sunday 10 to 5: FREE (although it might be nice to support the artists)
The Chicago Botanic Gardens is not exactly an unknown to those of us on the North Shore. We have visitors from out of town. From California. This is our weekend to shine.
Among the activities at the Chicago Botanic Garden this weekend…
You can see what’s in bloom (as of May 15) at this link…
The Northern Illinois Hosta Society Show and Sale. Don’t know what “a hosta” is? I didn’t. Now, I know that the “hosta” is “species of lily-like plants native to northeast Asia.” You may have known them as day lillies but no more.
The popular Garden Chef series takes place at the Regenstein Fruit & Vegetable Garden Amphitheater…the featured plant: the Cocozelle zucchini.
Saturday and Sunday: 8 to Sunset: Free (but $20 to park, you might consider riding your bike)
